More About Michael Uhl

Career-wise, I work as senior technical program manager at Red Hat Inc. in Raleigh, NC (USA). I advise on and support operations, cost management, and security for cloud computing resources we use.  

In this role, I work with stakeholders across many pillars of the enterprise in designing and standing up new policies and processes focused on improving our use of public cloud services.

The vast majority of my time is spent managing cloud computing accounts and the policies and procesess associated with those accounts in this order of effort: 

In 2018, I became an AWS certified Solutions Architect - Associate.

Career History

Before working at Red Hat, I worked briefly at Cisco Systems Inc. in Research Triangle Park, NC (USA) in the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT). Before that, I served 22 years as a program manager with Lockheed Martin on site at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Beginning with Martin Marietta in April 1995, and then soon with the newly merged Lockheed-Martin Marietta company--called Lockheed Martin, I supported the EPA's National Environmental Supercomputing Center, which EPA renamed the Environmental Modeling and Visualization Laboratory (EMVL).

EMVL provides two broad areas of scientific computing support: High Performance Computing (HPC) resources and technical staff; and scientific visualization and modeling programming support.

2000-2017, I served as manager of EMVL's scientific visualization lab. In 2017, my team of 14 supported 15 different scientific research projects.

1992-1995, I suported the pharmceutical giant Glaxo, Inc. as an on-site contractor in Research Triangle Park managing a team of technical writers.    

Project Management Institute

I am a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and regularly attend the North Carolina chapter's monthly meetings held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Research Triangle Park. I possess three PMI certifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) [awarded 2010]
  • Program Management Professional (PgMP) [awarded 2011], and
  • Agile-Certified Practitioner (ACP) [awarded 2016]

 

Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization

In 2009, I completed my Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization* from North Carolina State University (NC State).

*It has been renamed to Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization.
